Stop Violence Against Women

Legal Information

Any type of domestic violence is against the law. There are many situations in which charges of a domestic nature may arise, the most common one is when a man is charged with having assaulted his female partner. But, remember, if you are being abused in ANY way it is your right to seek justice and to receive help. This can only be achieved by coming forward to the proper authorities and making a complaint or in worse case instances, calling 911.

Once that first call is made to the police a huge array of activity will begin to happen that may become very overwhelming to the victim. There are many steps  in the legal system, which may seem like takes forever, before the process is completed and justice is served.

Understanding the Courts of Ontario  may help the victim to know what to expect and to assist them in preparing for court. Legal terms, processes, procedures and just needing to know what to do and where to go  may become very confusing to anyone. There are many pieces of information you should know about before, during and after court. Therefore, educating oneself as much as possible to make the process seem to run smoother is the goal we have in this section.
